PennDOT's Road Maintenance Hotline (1-800-FIX-ROAD)
The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) maintains a toll-free road maintenance hotline at 1-800-FIX-ROAD. This year-round customer service offers motorists an opportunity to notify PennDOT of roadway maintenance problems such as potholes, high shoulder drop-offs and roadway washouts.
The hotline is staffed Mondays through Fridays from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm. After hours and on weekends and holidays calls are recorded by a voice mail system. The calls are automatically routed to the closest PennDOT district office or county maintenance office.
Needless to say, not all problems reported are associated with a state road or highway. (See our Road Information pages to determine who is responsible for maintaining each road in the Township.) In these cases, PennDOT is making an extra effort to forward reports to the appropriate county, city, borough or township. Most notifications of local municipalities will be via mail, but if a rapid response is required, PennDOT operators will attempt to notify the municipality by telephone.
The above information is summarized from a letter from
PennDOT to the Township dated March 3, 1998.
