How Ordinances are Amended

When a township ordinance is amended, one might think a single new document is created as a "revised" ordinance, representing the original ordinance as modified by the amendment. Over time, with additional amendments, there would still be a single document.
This is not the case. The problem with the above process is that if a portion of an amendment is overturned in court, the entire document (ordinance) would be "thrown out", not just the overturned amendment.
Therefore, in general an ordinance that has been subject to many amendments looks like the following (not a single document) -
Gen Ordinance

In the case of the Official Map Ordinance, the original amendment was created in October 2003 (#109-2003). It was amended in September 2004 (124-2004). The Board of Supervisors is (2005 & 2006) in the process of amending the ordinance for the second time. If some form of the amendment currently under discussion is subsequently approved in 2006, the ordinance will consist of three documents -
Official Map Ordinance
If for some reason the proposed amendment is overturned in court in the future, the original 2003 Official Map Ordinance and the 2004 Amendment would still be in effect.
