Roadmaster Report to the Board of Supervisors

January 6, 2003

December was a busy month with December 5th, December 11th and December 25th each bringing snow, blowing snow, ice, sleet, freezing rain and sub-freezing temperatures. The road contractor responded to each in a timely manner with few road-related problems. The road contractor also changed to Nextel mobile telephones to improve communications.
Downed trees on Pine Drive and Valley Hill Road were cleaned up. A stop sign was replaced at Maryhill and Ravenhill Roads, a mailbox post on Southwinds Lane was repaired and the wiring started at the township yard for the shed and garage lights.
The leaf cleanup on Pine Drive, Maryhill Road, Howell Road, Rees Road and other areas of the township has been delayed due to the weather. We will reschedule this work as weather permits.
Intersection improvements continue in the Charlestown Road / Phoenixville Pike / Warner Lane / Yellow Springs Road area with additional testing scheduled for January 8th.
I am continuing to review township roads for deficiencies or necessary improvements. We are beginning to install reflective bars on critical stop-sign posts after they are upgraded (if necessary) to current PennDOT specifications.

Frederick C. Alston
