Fire Marshal Report to the Board of Supervisors

December 7, 1998

The month of November was moderately busy for the East Whiteland and Kimberton Fire Companies that respond to our township. There were one leaves fire, one vehicle fire, one tree in roadway and seven vehicle accidents - two involving motorcycles.

The incidents were as follow:

  • Leaves fire Maryhill Road
  • Vehicle fire on Route 29 at Phoenixville Pike
  • Tree in roadway on Route 29 north of Charlestown Road

Vehicle accidents on:

  • Charlestown Road at Hilltop Road

  • Rt. 29 at the bad curve - 2 accidents

  • Coldstream Road at the bad curve

  • White Horse Road at Union Hill Road

  • Route 29 and Yellow Springs Road

  • Charlestown Road at Markley Lane

I also checked one open burning incident.

Soon, we will be installing blue markers behind each fire hydrant in the township. These are to assist the fire company in locating the hydrants in snow as well as being easier to find during the night and day.

Precipitation for November was nearly 2" below the average. We are now about 8" below normal for 1998. Please continue to be careful with any permitted burning and do not leave any fire unattended.

Chester County is currently under a drought watch. While not as severe as a drought warning, it is still prudent to look for ways to conserve your water usage.

As we get ready for the holidays, please make sure that all of your decorations and lighting are used appropriately and safely. Check all light sets for frayed wires, broken and burned out bulbs, etc. For outdoor lighting, use only those sets designated for outdoor use. Do not overload wiring, receptacles or circuits.

Respectfully submitted,

Frederick C. Alston

Fire Marshal
