Fire Marshal Report to the Board of Supervisors

December 2, 2002

During the month of November, the East Whiteland Fire Companies and I responded to one automatic fire alarm, one odor investigation, one electrical appliance, one controlled burn and one vehicle accident. The Kimberton Fire Company report was not immediately available.
The emergency calls were as follows:
  • Automatic fire alarm on Yellow Springs Road
  • Odor investigation on Valley Hill Road
  • Electrical appliance on Phoenixville Pike
  • Controlled burn on Charlestown Road
  • Vehicle accident on Charlestown Road north of Pikeland Road
Our precipitation continues at an above normal rate with November being nearly 1.5" above average. Year-to-date is now about 3.5" below normal. We still remain under a drought emergency so please continue to follow the water conservation measures as outlined by the county and state.
If you burn, you may burn only leaves and waste papers in a proper container during daylight hours. The fire must be attended constantly and a means of extinguishing the fire must be on hand. The Chester County Fire Board is to be notified before you start and when you have completed the burning. Please be responsible and burn safely.
I am continuing the "installation" of emergency lock box rapid entry systems and am following up on the Haz-Mat reporting requirements. Two of the hydrants in Charlestown Park are being repaired and the other two will be removed from service and capped. Their repair is not feasible and the water flows available do not warrant the additional hydrants.
Work continues on the Township Emergency Plan. Our 2002 RERF grant request was received. Among other items, a new printer/scanner/copier was installed at the EOC.
Please drive safely and when the road looks like it might be wet, it may well be ice.
Respectfully submitted,
Frederick C. Alston
Fire Marshal / Emergency Management Coordinator
