Fire Marshal Report to the Board of Supervisors

December 3, 2001

During the month of October, the Kimberton Fire Company responded to one automatic fire alarm, one gas leak outside, one trash fire, and three vehicle accidents. During the month of Novbember the East Whiteland and Kimberton Fire Companies and I responded to six automatic fire alarms, one chimney fire, one wires fire, one leaves fire, five vehicle accidents, and two controlled burns.
The emergency calls were as follows:
   Automatic fire alarms at:
  • Merlin Road
  • Phoenixville Pike (2 locations)
  • General Warrren Boulevard (same location twice)
  • Yellow Springs Road
  • Ravenhill Road (fourth time this year)
Gas leak outside on Benburb Road
   Trash on Marion Road
   Leaves on Marion Road
Chimney fire on Great Woods Lane
   Wires on General Warren Boulevard
   Vehicle accidents on:
  • Coldstream Road
  • Charlestown Road - 3 accidents
  • Pickering Dam Road
  • Yellow Springs Road
  • Whitehorse and Morehall Roads
  • Whitehorse and Union Hill Road
Controlled burns on Whitehorse Road and Sycamore Lane
Precipitation for November was 3" below normal resulting in a deficit of nearly 10" for the year. On November 13, 2001 I banned all outdoor burning in the township due to the drought. I do not see lifting this ban any time soon as the weather forecasts do not predict any significant rainfall in the near future. Please reduce your water usage.
When installing holiday lighting, whether inside or outdoors, inspect all wiring and replace if worn or frayed. Please make sure that all lights are kept away from combustible materials. Inspect indoor trees daily and add water as necessary.
Respectfully submitted,

Frederick C. Alston, Fire Marshal
