Fire Marshal Report to the Board of Supervisors

December 4, 2000

During the month of November, the East Whiteland and Kimberton Fire Companies and I responded to four automatic alarms, one gas leak, one wires fire, one medical assist and three vehicle accidents. I also checked three open burnings and attended a PEMA seminar.
The emergency calls were as follows:
   Automatic alarms at:
  • Lewisville Court
  • Forge Court
  • Morehall Road (number 20 this year for this business)
  • Mine Road
Wires fire at Charlestown and Hollow Roads
Gas leak on Tudor Court near Yorktown Road
Medical assist on Shamrock Hill Lane
   Vehicle accidents on:
  • Charlestown Road and Swiss Lane
  • Pikeland Road east of Church Road
  • Charlestown Road north of Tree Lane
Precipitation for November was about 1.1Ò below normal which brings the year-to-date to just over 3.8" above normal. It is very still dry so if you must burn, do it safely and in accordance with our fire control ordinance Ð in an approved container and only leaves and waste papers. Be considerate of your neighbors who are downwind of the fire.
I met with our again solicitor concerning the Fire Control Ordinance and the new Hazardous Materials Reporting and Storage Ordinance.
Be sure to test your Carbon Monoxide (CO) and Smoke Detectors regularly.
Respectfully submitted,

Frederick C. Alston, Fire Marshal
