During the month of September, the East Whiteland and Kimberton Fire Companies responded to four automatic fire alarms, one gas leak, one wires fire, one transformer fire, and five vehicle accidents.
The emergency calls were as follows:
   Automatic fire alarms at:
  • Willow Creek Lane (third alarm this year)
  • Charwyn
  • Buckwalter Road
  • Raven Hill Road (another alarm)
Gas leak on Bodine Road    Wires on
  • Bodine Road
   Transformer on Howells Road
   Vehicle accidents on:
  • Coldstream Road - 3 accidents
  • Pickering Road and Rt. 29
  • Phoenixville Pike near Dixon Drive
Precipitation for September was 1" below normal resulting in a deficit of 5" for the year. Please reduce your water usage.
This is the time of the year that deer move around a lot more. They are coming out during daylight hours as well as in the evening and night. As you drive, please be alert for them. They can do quite a bit of damage to you and your vehicle.
Tis the season that we start using our furnaces, fireplaces and stoves. Have your chimney inspected and cleaned if necessary. Also, have your furnace checked and serviced. Remember to keep ashes in metal containers, well away from combustible materials (including leaves) until the ashes are cold and out (two weeks is recommended).
I will be meeting again with the Township Engineer and PennDOT regarding the light at Rt 401 and Valley Hill Road. The new fire control ordinance is under review along with the Municipal Emergency Operations Plan.
The Emergency Operations Center was placed on standby immediately after the September 11, 2001 attacks. While the EOC remained on standby for several days, we did not open during that time. Our practice table-top drill is expected to be held October 22, 2001 at the EOC. Please consider joining our Emergency Operations Center staff. Training is free and your services are appreciated. Please contact me or the township office for details.
Respectfully submitted,

Frederick C. Alston, Fire Marshal
