Fire Marshal Report to the Board of Supervisors

September 16, 2002

During the month of August, the East Whiteland and Kimberton Fire Companies and I responded to one automatic fire alarm, one open burning, one woods fire, two mulch fires, one vehicle fire and four vehicle accidents.
The emergency calls were as follows:
   Automatic fire alarms at:
  • Charwyn Lane
   Open burning on Hollow Road
   Woods fire on Charlestown Road
   Mulch fires on:
  • Fairfax Court
  • Charlestown Hunt Drive
Vehicle fire on State Road at Union Hill Road
   Vehicle accidents on:
  • Coldstream Road at the "S" bend
  • State Road at the "S" bend
  • Whitehorse Road
  • Charlestown and Pickering Dam Roads
Precipitation for August was 1.4" below normal for the month and is 7.5" below normal year-to-date. We remain under a drought emergency and a ban on all outside burning. Please continue to follow the water conservation measures as out lined by the county and state.
I am continuing the "installation" of emergency lock box rapid entry systems when requested. The four hydrants at the Charlestown Park were checked professionally and all need to be either repaired or replaced and then painted.
I attended an "Operation Lifesaver" seminar hosted by Norfolk-Southern Railroad at Abram Yard in King of Prussia. The seminar dealt with railroad grade crossings, hazardous materials, tank cars, locomotives and procedures. It was well presented and very informative.
There will be a training session at the Charlestown Township Emergency Operations Center on September 19. 2002 at 7:30 pm. If you are interested in helping in this area, please contact me. Refreshments will be served.
Respectfully submitted,
Frederick C. Alston
Fire Marshal / Emergency Management Coordinator
