Fire Marshal Report to the Board of Supervisors

August 2, 1999

During the month of July, the East Whiteland and Kimberton Fire Companies responded to one hazardous materials incident, three trees and wires fires, one CO detector alarm, one automatic fire alarm, two assist the ambulance and three vehicle accidents.
The emergency calls were as follows:
Hazardous materials incident on Phoenixville Pike
Trees and wires fires on:
  • Lane Road
  • Foster and Yellow Springs Roads
  • Charlestown and Pickering Roads
CO detector alarm on Louden Place
Automatic fire alarm on State Road
Assist the ambulance on:
  • Charlestown Road
  • Lewisville Circle
Vehicle accidents on:
  • State Road
  • Charlestown Road near Pickering Road
  • Charlestown Road near Hollow Road
On July 29, 1999 I instituted a burning ban on all outside burning until further notice due in part to the extreme drought conditions that exist. On July 31, 1999 the County Commissioners banned all burning in Chester County for a period of 30 days. The county ban may be enforced by the State Police whenever necessary.
Precipitation for July was more than 3" below normal for the month. We are currently under a drought emergency. The provisions of the drought emergency are also being enforced by the State Police in our township. Conservation of our water resources is vitally important.
The Charlestown EOC met on July 22, 1999 for a "desktop exercise" in preparation for the September Limerick Generating Station Drill. Our guests included a representative from PEMA, two members of the Chester County EOC and four representatives from PECO. The training went well and we all learned from the experience.
Respectfully submitted,

Frederick C. Alston
Fire Marshal
