Fire Marshal Report to the Board of Supervisors

July 12, 1999

During the month of June, the East Whiteland and Kimberton Fire Companies responded to one automatic fire alarm, three assist the police, one assist the ambulance and one vehicle accident.
The emergency calls were as follows:
Automatic fire alarm on Rapps Run Drive
Assist the police on:
  • Valley Hill Road
  • Route 29 and Charlestown Road
  • Route 29 and Aldham Road
Assist the ambulance on Pine Drive
Vehicle accident on Route 29 near Hollow Road

Precipitation for June was more than 1" below normal for the month. We are currently under a drought warning which is very close to being declared a drought emergency. Conservation of our water resources is extremely important.
I would like to again strongly urge you to upgrade the traffic signal at Route 29 and Charlestown Road to include emergency vehicle preemption. This is a very busy intersection and emergency vehicles must be able to exercise control over the traffic.

Respectfully submitted,

Frederick C. Alston
Fire Marshal
