Fire Marshal Report to the Board of Supervisors

June 2, 2003

During the month of April, the Kimberton Fire Company responded to three automatic alarms and one vehicle accident. During the month of May, the East Whiteland Township Volunteer Fire Association, Kimberton Fire Company and I responded to two automatic alarms, four vehicle accidents, one fireworks display, one open burning and one hazardous materials incident.

The emergency calls were as follows:
   Automatic fire alarms on:
  • Pikeland Road (April)
  • Charlestown Road (April)
  • Maryhill Rd (April)
  • General Warren Boulevard
  • Howells Road
   Open burning on Coldstream Road
Fireworks display on Pikeland Road (permit issued)
   Hazardous materials on Morehall Road
   Vehicle accidents on:
  • Charlestown Road near Swiss Lane (April)
  • Charlestown Road and Pickering Road
  • Yellow Springs Road
  • State Road near Dickson Drive (motorcycle)
Our precipitation was 3.9" for the month which was normal. We remain slightly below average for this year.
I checked an accessability issue on Wells Road. I met with an ATF agent regarding an explosives magazine.
Work on the basic Emergency Operations Plan has been completed. The several annexes are being reviewed for inclusion into the Plan.
We have new regulations concerning fireworks displays as well as new burning regulations which are in effect for all outside burning. If you must burn or have a fireworks display, do it safely and in accordance with our ordinance.
There seem to be more deer than usual this year. Please be careful while driving, especially around twilight and sunrise.
Respectfully submitted,
Frederick C. Alston
Fire Marshal / Emergency Management Coordinator
