Fire Marshal Report to the Board of Supervisors

June 5, 2000

Area schools are out or soon will be. Please be alert for children playing on or near the roadway. Please drive carefully.
During the month of May, the East Whiteland and Kimberton Fire Companies responded to one dwelling fire, one trees/wires fire, one wires fire, one controlled burn and six vehicle accidents..
The emergency calls were as follows:
Dwelling fire on Sidley Hill Road
Trees/wires fire on Tinker Hill Lane
   Wires fire on Pine Drive
   Controlled burn on Phoenixville Pike
   Vehicle Accidents on:
  • Phoenixville Pike near Charlestown Hunt Drive (2 accidnets)
  • Coldstream Road at the "S" curve
  • Route 401 at Valley Hill Road
  • Blackberry Lane and Hollow Road
  • Rt 29 near Charlestown Road
The flagrant repeated false alarm situation seems to have quieted down with no calls last month.
Precipitation for May was 3/4" above normal. Year-to-date is almost 1" above normal. Please be careful if you must burn and do it safely - in an approved container and only burn leaves and waste papers.
We are continuing to work on the update to the Fire Control Ordinance and the generation of a new Hazardous Materials Reporting and Storage Ordinance.
Respectfully submitted,

Frederick C. Alston, Fire Marshal
