Fire Marshal Reports to the Board of Supervisors

June 7, 2004
For the month of May, 2004

During the month of May, the East Whiteland Township Volunteer Fire Association, Kimberton Fire Company and I responded to one dwelling fire, four automatic alarms, one appliance fire, one wires fire, three vehicle accidents, one burn detail, one fireworks detail and four ambulance assists.

The emergency calls were as follows:
   Dwelling fire on Church Road
   Automatic fire alarms on:
  • Blackstone Lane
  • Yorktown Court
  • Avon Court
  • Merlin Road
   Appliance fire on Heatherwood Drive
   Wires fire on Yellow Springs Road
   Vehicle accidents on:
  • Charlestown Road near Swiss Lane
  • Hollow and Pikeland Roads
  • State Road near Charlestown Road
Precipitation for the month was 0.3" below normal making the yearly average 0.1" below normal.
I am monitoring the safety aspects at the Mill reconstruction project. An individual fell 3 to 4 feet on the stone embankment, Òknocking the wind out of himÓ. He was checked by paramedics at the scene.
A Fireworks Permit is required if you are going to display fireworks in the Township. Please complete the permit application available at the Township office at least two weeks prior to your display date. Please remember that the only things that are permitted to be burned are leaves and waste papers. If you must burn, please follow the requirements of the burning ordinance.

July 12, 2004
For the month of June, 2004

During the month of June, the East Whiteland Township Volunteer Fire Association, Kimberton Fire Company and I responded to one dumpster fire, four automatic alarms, one appliance fire, one gas leak outside, three vehicle accidents, two helicopter standbys and six ambulance assists.

The emergency calls were as follows:
   Dumpster fire on Newcomen Road
   Automatic fire alarms on:
  • Blackstone Lane
  • Seven Oaks Road
  • Lewisville Court (twice at same address)
   Appliance fire on Foster Road
   Gas leak outside on Charlestown Road
   Vehicle accidents on:
  • Charlestown Road (2 locations)
  • Conestoga Road
Precipitation for the month was 1.3" above normal making the yearly average 1.2" above normal.
I am continuing to monitor the safety aspects at the Mill reconstruction project.
All fireworks require a permit in the Township. There is no charge for the permit and the permit application available at the Township office. Please submit the application at least two weeks prior to your fireworks date.
Please remember that the only things that are permitted to be burned are leaves and waste papers. If you must burn, follow the requirements of the burning ordinance.

August 2, 2004
For the month of July 2004

During the month of July, the East Whiteland Township Volunteer Fire Association, Kimberton Fire Company and I responded to one CO detector, two automatic alarms, one appliance fire, one fuel spill, one residential rescue, one wires fire, five vehicle accidents, one helicopter standby and two ambulance assists.

The emergency calls were as follows:
   CO detector on Huntingdon Court
   Automatic fire alarms on:
  • Ravenhill Road
  • Maryhill Road
   Appliance fire on Valley Hill Road
   Fuel Spill on Yellow Springs Road
   Residential Rescue on Valley Hill Road
   Wires fire on Pickering Dam Road
   Vehicle accidents on Charlestown Road (3 locations - 5 accidents)
I assisted with traffic control for the aircraft incident in West Whiteland Township. I also met with businesses concerned about flooding during the recent rains.
Precipitation for the month was 3.5" above normal making the yearly average 4.8" above normal.
All of the new fire hydrants along Newcomen Road and the one at the entrance to Charlestown Meadows along Conestoga Road (Rt.401) have been reported to be in service. I continued to monitor the safety aspects at the Mill reconstruction project.

The emergency calls were as follows:
   Brush fire on Valley Hill Road
   Automatic fire alarms on:
  • Charlestown Road (2 locations)
  • Wells Road
   Odor investigation on Morehall Road at Whitehorse Road
   Wires fire on Pikeland Road near Church Road
   Vehicle accidents on:
  • Charlestown Road (3 locations)
  • Church and Pikeland Roads (2 accidents)
  • Coldstream Road
Precipitation for the month was above normal making the yearly average 4" above normal.
I continued to monitor the safety aspects at the Mill reconstruction project.
