Fire Marshal Report to the Board of Supervisors

April 5, 1999

During the month of March, the East Whiteland and Kimberton Fire Companies responded to: two dwelling fires, three automatic fire alarms, three wires and two vehicle accidents. Additionally, I investigated several incidents of open burning and took the "Essentials of Firefighting" (Part I) Course.
The emergency calls were as follow:

Dwelling fires on
  • Marian Road
  • Hollow Road
Automatic fire alarms on
  • Rapps Run
  • Valley Hill Road
  • Yellow Springs Road
Wires on
  • Yellow Springs Road at Phoenixville Pike
  • Phoenixville Pike at Rt. 29
  • Yellow Springs Road at Charlestown Oaks
Vehicle accidents on
  • Charlestown Road near Pikeland Road
  • Rt 401 near Newcomen Road
Precipitation for March was 1/2" above normal which leaves a 6-1/2" deficit for the last 15 months. It is very dry, even with the rain, and the risk of fire will remain high until the vegetation greens up. The burning ban remains in effect.

Respectfully submitted,

Frederick C. Alston
Fire Marshal
