Fire Marshal Report to the Board of Supervisors

April 1, 2002

During the month of March, the East Whiteland and Kimberton Fire Companies and I responded to two automatic fire alarms, one odor investigation, three open burnings and four vehicle accidents.
The emergency calls were as follows:
   Automatic fire alarms at:
  • Pikeland Road
  • Yellow Springs Road
   Odor investigations on:
  • Phoenixville Pike
   Vehicle accidents on:
  • State Road at Pickering Dam Road (2 accidents)
  • Charlestown and Hollow Roads
  • Charlestown Road and Tree Lane
   Inspection on Phoenixville Pike
   Open burning on:
  • Warner Lane
  • Yellow Springs Road
  • Marion Road
Precipitation for March was 0.25" above normal for the month. We are still 13" below normal for the last 14 months and remain under a drought emergency along with a burning ban on all outside burning. This applies to both the township and the county. Please continue to follow the water conservation measures as outlined by the county and state. Citations were issued for all of the open burnings.
The odor investigation on Phoenixville Pike was determined to be a release of a mercaptan family chemical. The situation appears to be corrected and no further releases are expected.
Respectfully submitted,
Frederick C. Alston
Fire Marshal / Emergency Management Coordinator
