Fire Marshal Report to the Board of Supervisors

April 2, 2001

During the month of March, the East Whiteland and Kimberton Fire Companies responded to one dwelling fire, one garage fire, six automatic fire alarms, two wires, one odor investigation and three vehicle accidents.
The emergency calls were as follows:
Dwelling fire on Charlestown Hunt Drive
Garage fire on Yellow Springs Road
   Automatic alarms at:
  • Morehall Road
  • Sawgrass Lane (twice at same residence)
  • Phoenixville Pike
  • Tinkerhill Road
  • Charlestown Road
   Wires fires on:
  • Phoenixville Pike
  • Route 29 and Pikes Peak
   Odor investigation on Phoenixville Pike
   Vehicle accidents on:
  • Route 401 and Valley Hill Road
  • Charlestown Road at Swiss Lane
  • Pikeland Road near Three Ponds Lane
Precipitation for March was near normal.
We have had another dwelling fire that was started by ashes from the fireplace being stored improperly. The fire caused extensive damage to the home. PLEASE place ashes from the fireplace or stove in a metal container and store them outdoors, away from combustible material for at least two weeks before disposing of them.
If you must burn, do it safely and in accordance with our fire control ordinance Ð in an approved container and burn only leaves and waste papers. Also, be considerate of your neighbors who are downwind of your fire.
Respectfully submitted,

Frederick C. Alston, Fire Marshal
