Fire Marshal Report to the Board of Supervisors

April 3, 2000

As you are doing your spring cleanup, please take time to check for the proper display of your address. If you have any questions as to the proper display please contact the Township office.
During the month of March, the East Whiteland and Kimberton Fire Companies responded to six automatic fire alarms and one each: vehicle accident, brush fire, wires fire, car fire, outbuilding and fuel spill.
The emergency calls were as follows:
Automatic fire alarms on:
  • Morehall Road 3 times (7th, 8th and 9th time in last 3 months at same location)
  • Country Lane
  • Raven Hill Road
Vehicle accident on Route 29 near Warner Road
   Brush fire on Phoenixville Pike
   Wires fire on Howells Road
   Car fire on Charlestown Road
   Outbuilding on Bodine Road
Fuel spill (crankcase oil) on Route 29 at the ñSî curve
I inspected two new building areas, checked some of the hydrant locations, investigated a fireworks complaint and am working to eliminate the repeated false alarms.
Precipitation for March was 3" above normal. Year-to-date is 2" above normal. It continues to be a bad time to do any burning due to the higher winds that are normal for this time of the year and the low humidity. Please be very careful if you must burn and do it safely - in an approved container and only leaves and waste papers.
We are continuing to work on an update to the Fire Control Ordinance and the generation of a new Hazardous Materials Reporting and Storage Ordinance.
We are approaching the season when the deer population becomes a lot more active. They are moving around now, not just at night, but during the day. Be especially alert for the deer as they can do considerable damage to your vehicle.
Respectfully submitted,

Frederick C. Alston, Fire Marshal
