Fire Marshal Report to the Board of Supervisors
February 7, 2000
During the month of January, the East Whiteland and Kimberton Fire Companies responded to ten vehicle accidents, five automatic fire alarms, two wires, one tree, one residential rescue, one dumpster and one assist the police calls.
The emergency calls were as follows:
Automatic fire alarms on:
- Morehall Road (twice at the same location; there were 3 alarms at that location last month)
- Union Hill Road
- Southwinds Lane
- Raven Hill Road
Vehicle accidents on:
- Route 401 near Valley Hill Road
- Yellow Springs and Wells Roads
- Route 29 north of Hollow Road
- Route 29 south of Hollow Road
- Yellow Springs Road at the Turnpike bridge
- Pine Drive
- Pickering Dam and Charlestown Roads (2 incidents)
- Merlin Road
- Charlestown Road near Swiss Pines Lane
Wires on Amwell Valley Road and on Charlestown Road
Tree on Pickering Dam Road
Residential rescue on Valley Hill Road
Police assist at Route 29 and Charlestown Road
Precipitation for January was normal for the month.
The traffic light at Route 29 and Charlestown Road has experienced several problems with the railroad interface. This is being resolved with Norfolk-Southern. The multiple automatic alarms are being monitored and hopefully resolved. This is a waste of trained manpower as well as the equipment that responds.
We have been working on an update to the Fire Control Ordinance and the generation of a new Hazardous Materials Reporting and Storage Ordinance.
Respectfully submitted,
Frederick C. Alston, Fire Marshal
