Fire Marshal Reports to the Board of Supervisors

February 2, 2004
For the month of January, 2004

During the month of January, the East Whiteland Township Volunteer Fire Association, Kimberton Fire Company and I responded to one building fire, one vehicle fire, one pedestrian struck, two automatic alarms and five vehicle accidents.

The emergency calls were as follows:
   Building fire on General Warren Boulevard
   Vehicle fire on State Road
   Pedestrian struck on Merlin Road
   Automatic fire alarms on:
  • Eastwick Drive (2 calls, same location)
   Vehicle accidents on:
  • State and Charlestown Roads
  • Charlestown Road (3 locations)
  • State and Buckwalter Roads
  • Charlestown and Pickering Roads
Precipitation for the month was 1.8" below normal in spite of the five storms that hit our area.
The annual Hazardous Material report for 2004 is due now. Please file promptly.
Check your fire and burglar alarm systems and have them serviced if necessary.
Please drive safely and remember that when the road looks wet, it may well be ice covered.

March 1, 2004
For the month of February, 2004

During the month of February, the East Whiteland Township Volunteer Fire Association, Kimberton Fire Company and I responded to two dwelling fires, one odor investigation, one CO investigation, one open burning incident and eight vehicle accidents.

The emergency calls were as follows:
   Dwelling fires on:
  • Eastwick Drive
  • Tinkerhill Road
   Odor investigation on Crown Oak Drive
   CO investigation on Pickering Road
   Open burning on Buckwalter Road
   Vehicle accidents on:
  • Charlestown and Hollow Roads ( 3 accidents)
  • State and Charlestown Roads
  • State and Hollow Roads (reported, unfounded)
  • State and Pickering Dam Roads
  • Phoenixville Pike at Warner Lane
  • Whitehorse and Rees Roads
Precipitation for the month was .25" below normal which puts us at 2" below normal for the year.
I attended a Hazardous Materials Operations refresher course.
The weather is starting to warm up and as we do our yard cleanup work, please remember that the only things that are permitted to be burned are leaves and waste papers. If you must burn, please follow the requirements of the burning ordinance. The annual Hazardous Material report for 2004 is due now. Please file promptly.
Please drive safely and even though the days are warmer, ice may form on road surfaces during the nighttime and early morning hours.

April 5, 2004
For the month of March 2004

During the month of March, the East Whiteland Township Volunteer Fire Association, Kimberton Fire Company and I responded to three automatic alarms, one brush fire, one fuel spill and five vehicle accidents. There was also one facility inspection.

The emergency calls were as follows:
   Automatic fire alarms on:
  • Charlestown Road
  • Buckwalter Road
  • Buckwalter Farm Lane
   Brush fire on Charlestown Road (unfounded)
   Fuel spill at Charlestown and State Roads
   Vehicle accidents on:
  • Yellow Springs Road east of Morehall Road
  • Phoenixville Pike near Spring Mill Drive
  • Conestoga and Valley Hill Roads
  • State and Pickering Dam Roads
  • Merlin and Pikeland Roads
Precipitation for the month was again .25" below normal which puts us at 2.25" below normal for the year.
I am continuing to monitor the blasting that is being done at the Charlestown Meadows site. I am also monitoring the safety aspects at the Mill reconstruction project and I attended a One-Call Seminar.
Please drive safely and even though the days are warmer, ice may form on road surfaces during the nighttime and early morning hours.

May 3, 2004
For the month of April 2004

During the month of April, the East Whiteland Township Volunteer Fire Association, Kimberton Fire Company and I responded to eleven automatic alarms, one appliance fire, one dwelling fire, three wires down, one smoke investigation, one odor investigation, two open burns and one vehicle accident.

The emergency calls were as follows:
   Automatic fire alarms on:
  • Union Hill Road
  • Buckwalter Road (2 incidents same location)
  • Merlin Road (2 locations)
  • Pickering Road
  • South Winds Lane
  • Rapps Run Drive
  • General Warren Boulevard
  • Chesterfield Lane
  • Autumn Meadow Lane
   Appliance fire at Valley Forge Christian College
   Dwelling fire on State Road (drier vent)
   Wires down on:
  • Charlestown Road
  • Whitehorse Road
  • Conestoga Road
   Smoke investigation on Forge Court (burning mulch and porch stairs)
   Odor investigation on Avon Court
   Vehicle accidents on:
  • Charlestown Road involving a bicycle
Precipitation for the month was significantly above normal which brings us slightly above average for the year.
I am monitoring the safety aspects at the Mill reconstruction project.
Please remember that the only things that are permitted to be burned are leaves and waste papers. If you must burn, please follow the requirements of the burning ordinance. Any fireworks display must have a permit. Contact the Township office.
