Charlestown Civic Association

Known as the "voice of the people" and "heart of the community", the Charlestown Civic Assosiation formed in 1973 in response to significant challenges to Township Zoning Ordinances. A community philosophy was articulated with a vision of Charlestown as a semi-rural community preserving its natural amenities and planning its growth.
The Civic Association functions as a watchdog on developments proposed before the Township Planning Commission and Supervisors. If an issue is identified as inconsistent with the ordinances, the Civic Association may take an advocacy position. The issue would be researched, technical and professional experts consulted and legal counsel hired.
On several occasions the Civic Association has a regional reputation and has served as a model for other Civic Associations in Northern Chester County. Also known as the "heart of the community", in a Township where there is no public gathering place, the Civic Association sponsors special events and social functions which focus on the people which make and shape the character of the community.
The Charlestown Civic Association is funded by community donations and staffed by volunteers.
