Important Email Change Coming
Back in 1997 when I started this web site, the headache associated with spam email was not on the horizon, at least I did not see it coming to the extent we have it now. This site now has about 650 pages, each of which until recently had my firstname.lastname@example.org email address at the footer of the page. The webmaster address was also sprinkled about many other pages as well. Since starting this site, those who collect and sell email addresses to spammers have become both numerous and technically sophisticated. Computer programs are constantly scanning web pages all over the internet looking for email addresses and adding them to their lists that are sold to spammers. I am inundated with spam email for this and a few other sites that I have run for many years.
My answer to this problem is two phased.
Anyway, this is just a heads-up to those who have been emailing email@example.com to switch to webadmin... instead. Also, if you receive our update notices, and you have a filter routing those notices based on my email address, I will be changing the "From" address on those notices to "webadmin" effective Monday, March 19, 2007.
- I am changing my email address from "webmaster" to "webadmin". I am already checking for mail to both addresses whenever I check email.
- I am not going to have a clickable link to send a regular email to "webadmin" on the web site. Where I am currently displaying my address on the web site, I am either going to link to a form that can be used to send me a message, or I am going to display a graphic of the new email address, but not as a link, i.e. . I welcome emails from Charlestown residents, and ask that from now on you use the new "webadmin" address in your email program. (Note that for some time, the link in the footer of every page has been a link to a form, rather than a clickable email address.)
I hope to have the change-over completed by the end of March, at which time the (old) "webmaster" account will be buried for good (i.e. email to it will bounce back to the sender). I know this is a pain for some of you to do, but I feel I have no other choice, and believe me, it's a bigger pain for me to make all the necessary web site changes. If you have any questions, please send them to me by clicking here or email to .
