Charlestown Township Mining Date Line
The timeline shown below reflects most of the lead and related mining activity in the northern end of the Township. There is no evidence in the materials reviewed that the mines were closed because of a lack of commercial grade ore. It seems that organizational problems as well as the cost of mining in ground with abundant water were the primary obstacles leading to closures.
