HAVING EMAIL NOTIFICATION PROBLEMS?

When I send email notifications to our subscribers after posting new information to the web site, I often have one or more of the emails "bounce" back to me as undeliverable. I keep track of these bounces, and when a subscriber's email bounces several times I remove the subscriber from the distribution list, but keep him/her in our records in the case the subscriber subsequently submits a new, valid address.
New Subscribers
When I receive a new subscription to our email service, I send a confirmation email back using the email address included in the subscription form. I generally do this within a week of receiving the subscription form. Sometimes the visitor has put in an incorrect email address due to a typographical error or a missunderstanding of what his or her email address is. Therefore, if you have submitted a subscription application and never received a confirmation email from the webmaster, then you may have entered an invalid email address, or else your internet service provider or employer (if you are using a business email address) is screening your email and not passing this web site's email on to you. You should resubmit your email subscription form, carefully entering your correct email address. As an alternative, you can send an email directly from your email program to webmaster@charlestsown.org, including your name and asking to subscribe. You can also check with your employer to see if they are not letting our notices through to you.

Long-time Subscribers
If you have been receiving email notifications from the webmaster of this site and they stop coming, even when you see that there are new postings to the home page of the site, it generally means that you have either changed your email service provider and email address without notifying the webmaster, or your email service provider or employer (if you are using a business email address) has started screening your email and not passing this web site's email on to you. Other reasons include having a "full mailbox", in which case you should not be receiving email from anyone. If your email address has changed, you should resubmit your email subscription form, carefully entering your new email address. As an alternative, you can send an email directly from your email program to webmaster@charlestsown.org, including your name and old email address and asking to re-subscribe. If you think everything should work, then you can also check with your employer to see if they are not letting our notices through to you.

AOL Subscriber Considerations
If you are an AOL user and have subscribed to this web site with your correct screen name but have not received a confirmation or notices, you most likely have your AOL "Mail Controls" set to "Allow email only from AOL members". In this case, in order to receive our notices, you must also allow email from this domain. You can do this by going to the AOL "Mail Controls" window and checking "Allow email from all AOL members, and from the listed domains and addresses. Block email from all others.", and then use the ADD button to add "charlestsown.org" to the list in the "Mail Controls" window. (Do not type in the "www", just enter "charlestsown.org".
