A beautiful part of southeastern Pennsylvania
What Is This?
We have lived in this area for many, many years, and have never before seen the "bee" shown in the three photos below. This insect is about 1.25 inches long, and spent at least five minutes going from blossom to blossom on some pink impatiens we have on our porch. It has an unusual tail, with some burnt orange color in the center, with a patch of black "hair" on either side.
If anyone can tell us what this insect is, we would really appreciate it. Please click here if you know what it is, and send us the answer.
The answer, a Hummingbird Moth, has been provided by Ann Merriwether and Cathy Difilippo. Thanks.
