A Survey Seeking Art of Charlestown
(Please share your treasures of Charlestown!)

Nyala Farm 2957The Charlestown Historical Society, with the support of the Township, is planning an Art Show that will exhibit paintings and sketches of Charlestown scenes. The primary source of these paintings will be private homes of residents and former residents of Charlestown. This is an opportunity to share art of Charlestown scenes that may be hanging on your walls and probably never seen by most Township residents. (Do you know where this Charlestown farm scene was painted in 1953?)

Mill BarnThe organizers of this show are surveying our residents to see what scenes of our Township are owned by our residents and others, and whether or not you are willing to loan them for a day or two in late May or early June 2008, to be put on display along side similar art from other residents. The show will be indoor and your treasures will be handled carefully, protected from the elements, and displayed by experienced art show organizers. Security will be provided and art on loan will be insured. The organizers will prepare identifying signs for each piece. Where possible, we will identify approximately where in Charlestown Township each painting's scene is located. Of course we hope you will come to the show and see what works are on display from the homes of your friends and neighbors.
In order to estimate how much art would be available for such a show, we ask all residents who have art depicting scenes of Charlestown Township vistas, buildings, etc. and are willing to loan art for the show to complete our survey using one of the methods listed at the right. If you wish, ownership of your paintings may remain anonymous. Note that we are also interested in the possible use of selected paintings from the show for a future Township Calendar.
If you have art of Charlestown to share, please complete the survey as soon as possible, and no later than February 18.

FAQ
Why are you having this show limited to paintings of Charlestown scenes?
The Charlestown Historical Society serves to spread knowledge of the history and beauty of our township. CHS itself owns a variety of wonderful paintings of scenes in our township. Several members of the Historical Society privately own paintings depicting scenes of our township, some recent, and some paintings of earlier times. It's reasonable to assume that quite a few other residents own paintings of Charlestown scenes, and through that ownership, those residents would probably enjoy seeing township paintings hanging in other residents' homes. We would like to display as many of these paintings as possible in one place, and invite all residents to come and enjoy looking at the paintings.

Does the artist have to be a Charlestown resident?
Absolutely not. Only the subject matter is restricted to being Charlestown scenes. The artist may be from anywhere.

Does everybody have to know that I own my paintings?
No. If you prefer, you may remain anonymous and your name will not be displayed with your paintings or publicly listed as the owner of any paintings in the show. Of course, the organizers will have to know who you are and have contact information.

When and where will the art show be held?  (Updated)
The Art Show Committee expects to announce the time and place for the show very soon.

How do my paintings get to and from the show?
We will ask you to transport your own paintings. We will announce drop-off and pick-up dates and times.

How will I know you received the form I submit?
When we receive your form we will email you confirmation, including a copy of what you entered in all fields of the form.

Is there a fee to get into the show?
No. The show will be free. This is part of the Charlestown Historical Society's outreach program aimed at acquainting residents with the history and beauty of our township.

Will there be art for sale?  (Updated)
This show is not intended to be an art sale. However, if the owner of a painting (of a Charlestown scene) wishes to sell the item, it may be sold at the show. A 25% commission will be charged by the Charlestown Historical Society for any sales. Only the PDF version of the survey form accommodates items for sale.

Why is the show restricted to Charlestown scenes?
We feel there is probably a great deal of art depicting scenes of our township hanging on the walls of our residents and past residents. We prefer to focus this show on this limited subject. We will likely plan other art shows with different focus (Charlestown artists, photographs, etc.).

Are photos of Charlestown scenes included in the show?
At this time, the answer is "no". Should we not have sufficient paintings offered for exhibit, we may open this show up to photographs as well. If we do not include photos in this show, a future show that would be limited to or include photos of Charlestown scenes is likely.
